Flu update

£20.00This course is aimed at registered staff and HCAs who are new to administering influenza, pneumococcal (pneumonia) and herpes zoster (shingles) vaccinations. Staff who have previously administered flu, pneumonia & shingles vaccinations should complete the self-directed training package.
A prerequisite to attending this training is individuals must have previously undertaken either of the following:
- Avon LMC 2-day core immunisation training (or equivalent)
- Completed the Core immunisation self-directed e-learning package.

Aims and objectives
This training includes `flu, pneumococcal and shingles with a particular focus on seasonal ‘flu.
We will also consider injection techniques, legal issues, adverse events, practice and resource issues.
By the end of this session you should be able to:
- Differentiate between seasonal and pandemic flus.
- Recognise the risk implications and burden of disease for flu
- List flu prevention and management approaches.
- Recognise legal requirements for delivering a safe vaccination service.
- Identify the practical procedures and best practice in vaccine administration.
- Identify quality sources of further information.
- Develop an action plan of what you need to do in practice.
- Know how to respond in the event of an anaphylactic reaction or adverse event.
